Medical professionals in Singapore may be surprised when they have rare encounters with patients who are residents from assisted living facilities (ALFs) with access to resident doctors, nurses, and round-the-clock support services. Many mistakenly think that ALFs are nursing homes. Indeed, the ALF model of care is not well understood in Singapore, because it is comparatively new and not yet mainstream.
